Thanks! Interesting to even see a degrowth perspective in the Olympics in business-oriented Bloomberg recently https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2024-07-06/olympics-paris-2024-only-locals-should-attend

yet when I had a chat with UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action team recently about their framework revision they didn't seem very open to this mode of thinking at all

Thanks Dom, that's an interesting/hopeful perspective on Bloomberg with lots of useful stats on visitor emissions but not helpful that UNFCCC won't consider it at all. Can definitely imagine more locals supporting bids for the games if the tickets were primarily going to people who live in the region or who travel there by train. I'm going to an athletics event at the Paris Olympics on the way back from camping in SW France (all by train). The whole Olympic concept needs a lot of innovative reimagining. This is a good piece on Paris reusing sports venues this summer but less good for a housing point of view: https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/article/2024/jul/15/french-revolution-can-paris-deliver-the-leanest-greenest-olympics-yet
